Science Activities For Kids: An Explanation Of A Very Simple Science Project Many Are Familiar With
Science activities for kids are extremely fun. They are purposely made that way so kids are able to become interested in science. However, science activities for kids are also meant to be educational.
The best way to be educational is to always have a clear understanding of how a particular science project was done or why the end result was what it was. This is how students will learn and it is how they will develop an interest for all things science related.
Explaining how mold is formed
Even though they may still be very young, there aren’t going to be too many kids who haven’t experienced mold in certain places, particularly on bread. Assuming that these kids haven’t participated in a science project where they had to create mold, an understanding of how that mold forms would be beneficial.
Telling kids how to create their own mold
The purpose of science activities for kids is to not only teach them, but also to give them the ability to demonstrate what they have just learned to others. In the example I just gave of creating mold, this is quite simple. All you need to do is collect some dirt and a little bit of dust and put it on a cotton swab.
You will then need to collect some white bread and rub the cotton swab on it. Make sure to add a few drops of water on certain areas of the bread. Once you have done this simply place a slice of bread into a bag. For added insurance you are going to place the bag into an empty carton of some sort or even an empty container.
The next step in creating mold
After you have done all of the above you will need to wait patiently for about two days. After two days you’ll notice fungus beginning to grow on the slice of bread.
The explanation behind this project
When it comes to science activities for kids you want them to walk away with a full understanding of what just happened and why. In the case of creating mold on bread, mold was created because of damp and dark areas.
A kid will be able to observe what type of things or what type of places mold are most likely to grow. They will also know how it grows and why it grows. Even more importantly, kids will be able to learn what measures they can take in order to prevent the growth of mold in certain spots.
As you can see when it comes to science activities for kids this particular one has more value than most. Not only are kids engaging in a fun activity, but they are also learning ways to keep themselves safe from potentially dangerous molds in real life. This is a very simple project to perform, and it will be the first of many activities related to science they will want to perform.
